Denovo Bikes and Cycling Futures At Street Velodrome

The StreetVelodrome event isn’t just reserved for the professionals. In the days leading up to the competitive heats the track is open for local budding cycling stars and schools to visit and try their hand at racing like the professionals.

So far, there have been over 2,000 primary school pupils on the StreetVelodrome track. Each child gets expert one-on-one coaching and gets to experience a fun racing experience with their friends and classmates.

All children who take part get the opportunity to be coached by some of the top StreetVelodrome riders and professional cycling stars. On the day, full equipment and appropriate safety gear is provided allowing all participants to enjoy a fun racing experience.

The event is great for building confidence of young people, some of whom may be a little scared about riding a bike. Some of the core skills learnt during the day include bike handling, insight into cycling as a sport, sportsmanship and pride in achievement.

At the Wigan Cycling Futures event, the children got the chance to be coached by 9 times world champion and Team GB Olympic gold medallist Shanaze Reade.

Following a couple of practice laps, the children compete in a two lap time trial just like the professionals. The top four riders from each day qualify to race head to head in Olympic style pursuit races.

At the end of the day, every child who takes part is awarded with a medal, and a Denovo Bikes sticker. The winner goes home with an exclusive DeNovo NexGen Series gold medal, and is with a chance of being invited to race at the national finals at the SuperFinal event in Canary Wharf.

The DeNovo NexGen series is delivered in partnership with Cycling Futures, who aim to increase access to cycling and cycle sport amongst primary school children.
